“The Last of Us,” “Poker Face,” “Bluey,” “The Bear” and “Jury Duty” are among this year’s additional nominees as the Peabody Awards’ board of jurors revealed 27 nods for its arts, children’s/youth, entertainment, and interactive & immersive categories. They join the 41 nominees across its documentary, news, public service and radio/podcast categories announced by Peabody earlier this week. You might not know Katie Parker's name, but if you've been following Mike Flanagan's work for a while, you definitely know her face. Parker started working with the writer-director all the way back in 2013 with "Oculus," in which she plays an unnamed store clerk. She joined "The Haunting of Hill House" as the ghost of Poppy Hill and returned in "The Haunting of Bly Manor" to play Perdita Willoughby-Lloyd.

In The Fall of the House of Usher, he plays the assistant US attorney C. Auguste has been working for years to bring down Fortunato, even before Roderick Usher took over. He serves as the prosecutor on the latest criminal trial against the Usher family.

“When I got in the business 30 years ago, people said I had 10 years left,” O’Hara says. ” Many modern tentpole films devote their third acts to the destruction of computer-generated worlds and characters, but O’Hara thinks he still has a job because audiences can feel when there are real human bodies at stake. “When everything is so visual effects-heavy, I don’t know what’s real and what’s not real [in those films],” he says. Universal is leaning into the appeal of human stunt performers to promote the film in other ways, too, launching a Fall Guy-themed stunt show produced by Leitch’s company at its Hollywood theme park to run through May 19.

Bruce Greenwood - Roderick Usher

Next, he played a video game designer in The Midnight Club, which he does again in The Fall of the House of Usher. As a bi fuckboi covered in trashy tattoos, fueled by party drugs, and driven by a self-destructive attitude that will be his doom, he's a total cad. As one of the two surviving members of the Usher family in “The Fall of the House of Usher,” Roderick is one of Poe’s character doubles, or doppelgangers. Roderick is intellectual and bookish, and his twin sister, Madeline, is ill and bedridden. Roderick’s inability to distinguish fantasy from reality resembles his sister’s physical weakness. Poe uses these characters to explore the philosophical mystery of the relationship between mind and body.

He leaves a mark on both series, and it should be exciting to see what the young star gets into moving forward, be it more Flanagan collaborations or entirely new projects. In "The Haunting of Hill House," Siegel plays Theo Crain, who possesses the strange ability to read people psychically when she touches them. In "The Haunting of Bly Manor," she plays the much darker role of Viola Willoughby-Lloyd, the original owner of the titular estate.

T’Nia Miller - Victorine Lafourcade

In November 2023, Roderick Usher, the CEO of pharmaceutical company Fortunato Pharmaceuticals, loses all six of his children within two weeks. Auguste Dupin, an Assistant United States Attorney who dedicated his career to exposing Fortunato's corruption, to his childhood home, where he tells the true story of his family and unveils the Ushers' darkest secrets. The Fall of the House of Usher is an American gothic horror drama television miniseries created by Mike Flanagan. All eight episodes were released on Netflix on October 12, 2023, each directed by either Flanagan or Michael Fimognari, with the latter also acting as cinematographer for the entire series. In order for stunt performers to earn a competitive Oscar, their community will have to complete a veritable parkour course of Academy bureaucracy.

The daughter of Frederick and Morella, Lenore is a kind and empathic young woman whose tendencies always lean toward making the conscientious choice, rather than the one that’s best for the family. Morelle (based on the Poe story “Morella”) is Frederick Usher’s wife and the mother of Lenore (Kyliegh Curran). Victorine (named after a character in “The Premature Burial”) is a scientist who has sparked gruesome rumors with her experiments on chimps. She works with her more skeptical partner, Dr. Allessandra Ruiz (Paola Núñez).

The series brings to Poe’s work a modern twist, as the feuding members of the Usher family get killed off one by one. So, class, cue up your streaming devices and let’s take a dive into this list of the chilling Poe references in The Fall of the House of Usher. Like some of those other series, "The Fall of the House of Usher" is an adaptation. But rather than adapting a single work, it adapts the entire breadth of Edgar Allan Poe's poetry and fiction, morphing it into a modern-day amalgam that addresses classism, trauma, the inherent corruption of enormous wealth, and the opioid epidemic, among other topics. All of the spooks, extended monologues, and literary homages that fans of Flanagan's work would expect are here. Overall, it's another hit for the horror maestro, adding to one of the most impressive creative runs of the streaming era.

Mary McDonnell as Madeline Usher

cast of the fall of the house of usher

She's another Flanagan frequent flyer with roles in The Midnight Club, Midnight Mass and The Haunting of Hill House. He's done a ton of voice work in addition to roles in shows like Supergirl, This is Us and S.W.A.T. He also is very well known for his role as Marcus Dixon in Alias. Mary McDonnell is well known to Battlestar Galactica fans for her portrayal of President Laura Roslin. Greenwood has a Flanagan connection after starring in 2019's Doctor Sleep, as well as previously starring with Carla Gugino in Flanagan's thriller Gerald's Game. Like other stars of "The Fall of the House of Usher," Gugino has worked with Flanagan extensively, including on "Gerald's Game," both "Haunting" series, and "Midnight Mass." Siegel married Flanagan in 2016, and has starred in several of his projects, including "Hush," both "The Haunting of Hill House" and "The Haunting of Bly Manor," and "Midnight Mass."

She can also be seen in Mayfair Witches, Midnight Mass, #Freerayshawn, Barry, and more. Morelle Usher is a former model and actor who is now the devoted wife of Frederick and mother to Lenore. Malcolm Goodwin brings a younger version of Auguste to life, who was an investigator, proving that the character has long been looking to do the right thing and find justice. The actress previously had smaller roles in The Haunting of Hill House, The Midnight Club, and The Haunting of Bly Manor.

So, I know, OK, yeah, I am upside down.” Holladay, like many stunt performers, is much better at making movie magic than at talking about his role in it. Stoicism and avoiding attention are part of the traditional stunt performers’ code. But for this interview, he’s being thrust into the spotlight by his Fall Guy director, David Leitch, a former stuntman who is part of an industry effort to get stunt performers more recognition for their work, and perhaps one day even an Oscar. The title comes from Poe’s 1839 short story of the same name — but each of the eight episodes is jam-packed with adaptations and references to stories and poems from Poe’s entire body of work. It’s clear that the minds behind The Fall of the House of Usher brushed up on 19th-century literature.

And he and Flanagan are poised to reunite with Life of Chuck, a Stephen King adaptation currently under development. Within this growing web of scary stories, Flanagan has not only dropped in Easter eggs for eagle-eyed fans but has also employed a riveting ensemble of recurring players. If you recognize one of the characters in The Fall of the House of Usher's scream face, from the Usher kids to the broader Usher family tree you've probably seen it elsewhere in the Flanagan media universe, also known as the Flanaverse. In recent years he's appeared in movies like Legends of the Fall, Suicide Kings and Cloak & Dagger.

Most recently, Trucco has been starring in the popular CBS drama "Fire Country" as Luke Leone. He also played Taylor Swift's boyfriend in the video for her 2011 song, "Ours." From 2019 to 2020, Gilford starred as Detective Ben Walker on the Spectrum Originals series "L.A.'s Finest" alongside Gabrielle Union, Jessica Alba, and Ernie Hudson. “The Fall of the House of Usher” is described as a modern remix of the short story of the same name by Egdar Allen Poe and multiple of his other works.

Described by Frederick as “Gucci Caligula,” Perry is the youngest of the Usher children. Having only recently been thrust into the life of the ultra-rich, Perry’s goal is to make life one big party, and he’s hoping to use his family’s money to achieve just that. Roderick Usher is the patriarch of the Usher family and CEO of Fortunato Pharmaceuticals. After acquiring Fortunato with the help of his twin sister, Madeline, the Usher family has found success and wealth at the cost of the greater good. An ambitious and driven man, Roderick expects the most out of his six children, giving them access to every resource imaginable — except his fatherly affection. The actor, who played Sturge in “Midnight Mass,” is cast here as the fitness guru husband of Tamerlane Usher (Samantha Sloyan).

Mary McDonnell as Madeline

In a scene early in The Fall Guy, a nameless crewmember buckles Ryan Gosling‘s seat belt as his character is about to attempt a cannon roll, a classic car stunt, on the set of a fictional science fiction movie called Metal Storm. Gosling plays Hollywood stuntman Colt Seavers, who is reluctantly returning to the film business after an injury, but in many ways the real star of the scene is the background actor buckling him in, Logan Holladay. The Academy, which declined to comment for this story, has a pragmatic reason to offer stunt performers that kind of welcome. As the ratings for awards shows of all types have lagged over the past decade, stunt-heavy popcorn films provide potential tune-in appeal for audiences who avoid the art house movies often nominated in other categories. The 52-year-old actress has snagged attention in very different productions over the course of her career, ranging from the girlfriend of Pauly Shore in the meet-the-parents comedy Son-in-Law to the family-friendly espionage thriller Spy Kids to the R-rated superhero movie Watchmen. But she's been on a roll working with Flanagan, playing an array of characters who are sexy, scary, and as savage as they need to be to survive.

T’Nia Miller is Netflix regular at this point between recurring in Sex Education and The Diplomat, in addition to her acclaimed turn in Mike Flanagan’s The Haunting of Bly Manor. In The Fall of the House of Usher, she plays one of Roderick’s many illegitimate children, Victorine LaFourcade. Victorine and her girlfriend/business partner Dr. Alessandra “Ali” Ruiz are developing a high-tech “heart mesh” device and eager to push it forward to human trials.

She's also worked with Flanagan on "Doctor Sleep," playing Silent Sarey, and on "The Midnight Club," playing Paragon founder Aceso. Most recently, Miller has been stepping even deeper into the realm of sci-fi TV, playing Cherise Nuland in the William Gibson adaptation "The Peripheral" on Prime Video and Zephyr Halima Ifa on the Isaac Asimov adaptation "Foundation" on Apple TV+. In "The Fall of the House of Usher," Gugino takes on the role of Verna, a mysterious and supernatural figure who haunts the eponymous family. Verna is one of the great mysteries of the show, though her true nature becomes more and more clear as the story continues. With the exception of Goodwin, Nuñez and Jun, each of the new additions have worked with Flanagan and Macy before on previous projects, with many having been specifically involved with Flanagan and Macy’s production company Intrepid Pictures.

And I think she aspires so much to please her father and to make him proud. And that has distorted her ambition in a way that has caused her to lock out all other things from life. [There’s] a single-mindedness to her, and she’s put so much pressure on herself and so much importance on her success that her anxiety level has just gone through the roof." Victorine Lafourcade is the oldest of the Usher “bastards” who has made her purpose in life to help people—though, it’s all in a bid to gain her father’s approval. While he may have positive aspirations, her actions aren’t always on the proper side of things, as seen when he bends the rules of clinical trials so that her new revolutionary heart technology can start testing on human subjects. Lumbly played a large role in the television series Alias and can also be seen in more recent projects such as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, This is Us, and S.W.A.T.

Gugino gripped the spotlight in Gerald's Game, starring in the Stephen King adaptation as a woman abandoned and handcuffed to a bed, doomed unless she can break free. In that gut-wrenching movie (also on Netflix), Gugino grappled with fear, frustration, and a love that festered. Their collaboration continued with The Haunting of Hill House, in which she played matriarch Olivia Crain among a rich ensemble. Morphing into different personas and accents across The Fall of the House of Usher, this Flanagan-created role might be the one to earn this sultry star a well-earned Emmy. Willa Fitzgerald is one of the few stars of "The Fall of the House of Usher" who hasn't previously appeared in any Mike Flanagan movies or shows. However, she's still plenty experienced when it comes to horror television.

Frank Langella will star as the Usher patriarch, Roderick, with Mary McDonnell as his sister, Madeline. Hamill and Gugino’s roles have yet to be revealed, but Lumbly will play the legendary Poe investigator, C. The eldest of the Usher “bastards,” Victorine has made helping people her life’s work, but like her siblings, the true source of her ambition is her desire for her father’s approval and affection. After Roderick shows interest in Victorine’s revolutionary new heart technology — still in its testing phase — Victorine bends the rules of clinical trials to start testing on human subjects. This time, Flanagan’s ghoulish crew is entering familial territory, as ruthless siblings Roderick and Madeline Usher have built Fortunato Pharmaceuticals into an empire of wealth, privilege, and power.

Mary McDonnell’s Madeline Usher is the incredibly intelligent and calculating brains behind Fortunato. She’s always pushing her brother, Roderick, whenever needed—though she’s not afraid to step over him if necessary. Verna is the shape-shifting demon after the Usher family throughout the series. The first two episodes of The Fall of the House of Usher premiered at Fantastic Fest in September 2023 before the Netflix release the following month, being viewed more than 13 million times in its first two weeks. It was met with positive reviews, with critics praising its production values, directing, and performances (in particular from Gugino, Greenwood and Mark Hamill), although they were divided on its narrative, notably in relation to the source materials.

Mark Hamill plays the Usher family lawyer, Arthur Pym.

Roderick isn't afraid to call his granddaughter, Lenore, the "best of" the Ushers. That's probably another reason all his children are vying for that affection. The daughter of Frederick and Morella, she's a kind and empathic young woman who tends to make the conscientious choice, rather than the one that is best for the family. Frederick describes Perry (Sauriyan Sapkota), the youngest of the Usher children, as "Gucci Caligula." What a nickname!

Miller played Hannah Grose in The Haunting of Blu Manor and also appeared in television shows Foundation, The Peripheral, and The Diplomat. The actor appears in projects such as Average Joe, Fire Country, The Rookie, Midnight Mass, and more. Mark Hamill’s Arthur Pym is the Usher family lawyer who is incredibly talented at what he does and is always willing to do what is asked of him. As much as he’s there for the Ushers, his more personal qualities remain a mystery to even his closest friends.

Loosely based on various works by 19th-century author Edgar Allan Poe (most prominently the eponymous 1840 short story), the series adapts otherwise unrelated stories and characters by Poe into a single nonlinear narrative set from 1953 to 2023. It recounts both the rise to power of Roderick Usher, the powerful CEO of a corrupt pharmaceutical company and his sister Madeline Usher, the firm's genius COO, and the events leading to the deaths of all six of Roderick’s children. It stars an ensemble cast led by Carla Gugino as a mysterious woman plaguing the Ushers, Bruce Greenwood as an elderly Roderick and Mary McDonnell as an elderly Madeline. The filmmakers digitally removed a safety line they used, for instance, to drag the real Gosling across a bridge at 30 miles an hour. It wasn’t that long ago that industry observers watching the introduction of digital stunts on films like Titanic predicted that human stunts would disappear entirely.

Gish started out as a child actor in the 1980s, appearing in movies like Mystic Pizza and Wyatt Earp. She entered the Flanaverse in 2016 with Before I Wake, in which she played a social worker who oversees the emerging bond between a foster child (Doctor Sleep's Jacob Tremblay) and his new parents (Kate Bosworth and Thomas Jane). Gish resurfaced in the 'verse as caretaker Clara Dudley in The Haunting of Hill House and the town doctor in Midnight Mass. Hamill is undoubtedly best known as Luke Skywalker from the Star Wars movies. But in The Fall of the House of Usher, he seems to tap more into his storied career as a voice actor, hiding his friendly warm tone with a nerve-rattling grumble. This is the guy who has given voice to the Joker, Skeletor, and Chucky the killer doll in the 2019 reboot of Child's Play.

Custom Automation Systems: Design & Engineering for OEM

owens design

Since 1983, Owens has worked with OEMs and manufacturers for startups to fortune 500 companies, to design and build over 2,500 tools with 100% delivery. At Owens Design, we start with an exploratory process that differentiates us from other equipment development providers. Semiconductor equipment product development can be very expensive, so we have developed a phased development process to help our customers determine the best approach and architect a cost-effective solution. For over 40 years, Owens Design has successfully delivered hundreds of tools to all major Semiconductor fabs around the world with a record of 100% delivery. Our team of highly skilled engineers design and build protoypes based on proven platforms to accelerate and scale your product development and manufacturing operations, efficiently while minimizing risk.

Second aqueduct's impact on the water system

If mutual qualification is established, a Phase 1 is a fast, cost-effective way to minimize risk for the most complex custom automation equipment projects, especially those on accelerated schedules. “Shortly after Bill Owens hired me as a Mechanical Design Engineer, I encountered a new experience working directly with customers. I found it rewarding to create and execute plans to bring their equipment to “life,” and my role in managing projects emerged. “Working at Owens Design for over 20 years, it still excites me to see client’s “ideas” and “goals” come in the front door and leave on a truck as complex pieces of machinery. In 1907, Los Angeles voters approved another bond issue for the aqueduct, this time for $23 million, and construction began the following year. Some 4,000 laborers worked at top speed, using new technologies such as the Caterpillar tractor and setting records for miles tunneled and pipe cut.

The dam failure is the worst man-made flood disaster in the US in the 20th century and the second largest single-event loss of life in California history after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. “When Bill Owens founded Owens Design in 1983, his vision was to create a company where talented engineers and technicians worked together to design and build manufacturing equipment for the emerging high technology companies of the day. Since that time, Owens has developed custom equipment for every new wave of technology emerging from Silicon Valley, from hard disk drives, semiconductors, solar cells, energy storage, medical devices and consumer mobile products.

Following Phase 1, the customer and Owens Design will move on with the tool development and build. The number of men who were on the payroll the first year was 2,629 and this number peaked at 6,060 in May 1909.

In 1910, employment dropped to 1,150 due to financial reasons but rebounded later in the year. The number of laborers working on the aqueduct at its peak was 3,900.[15][16][17][18] In 1913, the City of Los Angeles completed construction of the first Los Angeles Aqueduct. The city acquired three limestone quarries, two Tufa quarries and it constructed and operated a cement plant in Monolith, California, which could produce 1,200 barrels of Portland cement per day.

Owens Design (ODI) designs and builds advanced custom manufacturing equipment for technology companies from VC-funded start-ups to S&P500 corporations. For over 35 years ODI has been developing leading edge manufacturing equipment in the Silicon Valley, specializing in the development of complex, high speed, high precision and mission-critical process, metrology and automation factory equipment. In 1956, the State Department of Water Resources reported that Los Angeles was exporting only 320,000 acre-feet (390 million cubic metres) of water of the 590,000 acre⋅ft (730 million m3) available in the Owens Valley and Mono Basin. Three years later, the State Water Rights Board warned Los Angeles that they could lose rights to the water they were permitted for but not appropriating. By 1974, exports climbed to 450,000 acre⋅ft (560 million m3) per year.[29] Unlike the First Aqueduct which was built entirely by Public Works, the Second Los Angeles Aqueduct was primarily built on contract by various private construction firms including R.A. The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power managed the project and performed some finishing construction on the Mojave conduit and Jawbone & Dove Spring pipelines.

Drought hit the Los Angeles region in the first years of the 20th century, highlighting an urgent need to find a better, more consistent water supply if city leaders were to transform the city into a major West Coast metropolis. Through the end of the 19th century, a private corporation called the Los Angeles City Water Company had maintained control over and responsibility for the city’s water supply system. In 1902, the municipal government bought the franchise, retaining the City Water Company’s superintendent, William Mulholland, as head of the new Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. Mulholland, a self-trained engineer born in Ireland, had begun his career as a ditch-cleaner for the water company and risen to become its superintendent at the age of 31.

With the help of his former boss Fred Eaton (who had also served as mayor of Los Angeles), Mulholland identified a potential solution in the Owens Valley region, located on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada some 200 miles away. The engineers estimated that the Owens River, which ran through this region, could provide more than enough water to meet the needs of a growing Los Angeles. If both parties agree there is a mutual fit, we will propose a Phase 1 as a low-cost, low-risk way to establish your project concept along with cost and timelines. “About 15 years ago, while working at a startup as an engineering director looking for a competent supplier I ran into the Owens Design team. Since that time I started using Owens services and was amazed about the expediency and professionalism with which they addressed our challenges. In early 2014, John and Bob invited me to join the ranks to expand our markets and develop our customer base.

In the 1920s, Owens Valley residents grew angry and frustrated after seeing their farms drained of water, nearly every drop of which was pumped into the steadily growing San Fernando Valley. In 1924 and again in 1927, protesters blew up parts of the aqueduct, marking a particularly explosive chapter in the so-called “water wars” that had divided southern California. Owens went on to call Jera his muse in several statements which he gave afterwards. Tragedy struck in 1928, when the St. Francis Dam in northern Los Angeles County burst, inundating the towns of Castaic Junction, Fillmore, Bardsdale and Piru with billions of gallons of water and drowning hundreds of residents. An investigation concluded that the rock in the area had been too unstable to support the dam. Though Mulholland was cleared of charges in connection with the incident, his reputation was ruined, and he was forced to resign. The Los Angeles Aqueduct was extended further north by the early 1940s through the Mono Basin Project, finally reaching a total length of 338 miles (544 kilometers).

For example, a lot of space once used for sales or dining will now be taken over by behind-the-scenes work as vendors continue to shift to more takeout and pickup service. Chipman Design Architecture has weathered over four decades of economic turbulence by consistently leading with our values. We believe people come first, standing as a partner by our clients’ side, and committing the talent and resources needed to innovate through any storm. Throughout the construction process, our team acts as an extension of your team to manage the project from construction kick-off to turnover, right up to grand opening. In addition to responding to contractor RFI’s, our team can perform site observation visits, compliance visits and Interior Design FF+E installation oversight.

Design Leaders: Retail's Top 20 National Ranking

Our team meets or exceeds all benchmarks of architecture and design fields within the US. Before putting pen to paper, we like to identify a common communication style and define project goals. With these established, we develop the design and visual language of the space, discovering how your brand will be imbued within every physical element. Once you begin to stack up board-specific color and shape definitions such as these, legends or keys become essential, particularly when the intention is to create a template for general use. After stacking platforms in importance from top to bottom, indentation creates a helpful secondary prioritization.

Should we scale, and if so, how?: Dissecting the Scaled Agile debate

With its corporate office in Chicago, an office in Los Angeles and an affiliated office in New York, the firm is recognized nationally for its expertise in prototype design development, site adaptation and visualization services. Client presentations are created in-house using 3-D computer renderings and animations, enhanced by hand-drawn conceptual design sketches. Over the past five years, I’ve used the platform to map out various facets of my family’s architectural firm.

#1 Restaurant Design Firm

This collaborative spirit invites open communication on a near-daily basis, ensuring the highest levels of customer service are not only met, but exceeded. Leveraging our extensive design library and innovative Visualization Studio, our design process allows for face-to-face workshops with project stakeholders, in order to create the ultimate physical expression of the brand. Chipman Design has a proven track record of extraordinary design and is recognized throughout the industry for its expertise in creating engaging and future-facing retail environments.

We strive to build extraordinary experiences in physical environments on a national scale. Since that initial flagship store, collaboration with Chick-fil-A’s design and construction team has grown to accommodate its expanding national program. Chipman regularly provides architectural and design services for drive-thru restaurants, Urban In-Line stores, mall locations, and special projects. For some of the brand’s most complicated, multi-story locations in Manhattan, Chipman Design is able to leverage its in-house Visualization Studio to design virtual walkthroughs and 3D simulations that ensure execution is exactly right. The first step is to perform the internal due diligence and assemble all platforms into a single board to serve as a platform infrastructure kick-off template. I’ve included both the preliminary assembly I performed along with the final platform template to highlight the difference between boards made for initial/personal reference and boards made for general company use.

Chicago Blackhawks Flagship Store

Admittedly, COVID-19 is uncharted territory, but as the leading architectural design firm for a post-COVID-19 world, we are facing it with courage, innovation and resilience. Chipman Design has assembled a complement of highly-respected, nationally licensed engineering partners over the last four decades. With CDA acting as the main point of contact, this architect/engineer collaborative effort assures each client an effective project approach to both prototypical and site adaptable programming, ensuring a true synergistic team. By starting with these settings, I’m able to zoom in to smaller ideas should my board require more granular definition, while retaining the ability to zoom out to macro ideas or definitions with big, impact-sized words and type. Plunging to the depths of 3% and 2% is like the bottom of the ocean; you don’t know what you’re going to find down there. If you start with the default 100%-zoom 14pt font, you’re left with very little zoom room to become more granular in your mapping and thinking.

Industry's Leading Design Firms

Integrating both advanced technology and dependable mechanisms will ensure a contactless experience from initial entry and beyond. CDA has been a remote-capable work environment since the beginning of 2020, and currently, all our job site visits and construction sites are COVID compliant. We believe that human behavior is inherently structural, and our ability to navigate creative and practical solutions allows us to be the ultimate connector between the public and their experience with an environment. While we value pencil to paper, we integrate the latest technology to innovate the design process. John earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Illinois/Urbana reinforcing his studies at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Versailles, France, and at the Nacional d’Art Decoratif de Nice, France. Throughout his professional life, he has traveled extensively for both business and research throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Shape, color, and content – these three categories build the sequence of cognition or the order in which we perceive information through visual perception. If you’re only using content (words) to convey meaning, you’re losing a ton of terrific opportunities for more nuanced and dynamic definitions. As thought leaders on architectural design in a post-COVID world, we’re committed to keeping our clients and industries updated with the latest perspectives and findings.

Our team of experts have worked with building departments all across the nation to ensure safety standards are met through full code compliance. Every municipality has its own unique process and personality, and we make it our priority to understand it. “These are the top architecture graduate students in the United States and Canada as selected by the Metropolis team,” the magazine writes. For this next technique to be most effective, you need to define your center line, or axis of focus.

When setting up a board for personal reference, I don’t censor myself that much or worry about being explicit in definition. I fully flex my visual and conceptual thinking to give abstract concepts basic form, which in turn creates groupings of objects and allows those groups to be placed in relation to one another. This post focuses specifically on the ways that shape defines visual hierarchy, along with time-saving mechanics in Miro that significantly speed up diagramming and documenting.

From platform infrastructure and move planning to org charts and dashboards, the platform has proved invaluable in providing simpler reference to process-based ideas. All my time spent in Miro has borne out a wealth of (personal) best practices and time-saving techniques, built to give one’s workflow ease and elasticity. This book is ideal for anyone who is a fan of the National Parks, mythical creatures, and creepy, unexplained phenomena.

Our client list includes companies such as Universal Studios, Coors, Chrysler, Capitol One, MCA Records, Williams-Sonoma, Igloo Coolers, and Uinta Brewing. During his senior year, Derek was an all-star intern with us, producing several posters that have been published in our various collections. His stellar work earned him a full-time staff position once he graduated in the spring of 2017.

With over 3,000 designs and counting, we are continuing the grand tradition of the Golden Age of Poster Art for a whole new generation. After graduating from Ringling School of Art & Design in 1986, Joel moved to Music City and worked at Carden & Cherry Advertising for 7 years, winning an Emmy Award for his work on a CBS kid's show. He co-founded Anderson Thomas Design in 1993, producing countless award-winning creative projects. In 2007, Joel retooled the firm to specialize in branding packaging and poster art.

Each client is approached with a special sensitivity to their unique project needs. The Spirit of Nashville collection was our maiden voyage into the world of poster design. Since 2003, we've created over 160 designs depicting what we love most about Music City. This video was produced by one of our clients after we created their logo and fell in love with their products.

Since 1993, our family owned business has been producing high-quality illustrated prints, books, and wall decor. We love what we do as visual communicators—and it shows when we illustrate, hand-letter, or design in our favorite 20th-Century travel poster styles. We custom-print each of our posters in-house using the highest-quality inks and papers. Our most popular collection of designs is our National Parks poster collection, the perfect choice for any American adventure. Outdoor pools are perfect for tropical itineraries — and even for Canada and New England sailings in July and August — but spring and fall cruises can often be too cool and blustery for an outdoor dip. If pool time is nonnegotiable for you when cruising, look for a ship with an indoor pool or one with a retractable roof. Just a few cruise lines sail here during this period, namely Holland America and MSC Cruises, so there won't be multiple ships in port to overwhelm tourist sights. However, it might be too cool, especially in May, to fully enjoy the beach and certain water-based activities.

High-end, smaller-ship cruise lines may offer more in-depth itineraries of 11 to 15 nights, with more inclusions and higher price tags. Smaller ships can visit more off-the-beaten-path ports than their big-ship counterparts. Seabourn's 458-passenger Seabourn Quest sails 12-day cruises between New York and Montreal, stopping in Trois-Rivieres and Saguenay, Quebec, with scenic cruising along the Saguenay Fjord. The ship also visits Quebec City, Charlottetown, Halifax, Boston and Provincetown, Massachusetts. You'll find abundant natural beauty all around the ports you'll visit on a Canada and New England cruise, so plan to enjoy it. Whether you prefer hiking, kayaking, wildlife spotting, visiting waterfalls or photographing rocky coastlines, you'll have opportunities to appreciate an abundance of natural phenomena.

Following President Trump's executive order on immigration, in the end of January 2017 Port Everglades officials reported cruise tourists being detained by US Customs and Border Protection. All detainees had to provide background info about them, their families and also their past life in their native countries. The new President's order was signed on Jan 27, and included a 90-day ban on travel to the USA by citizens of Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen. Within the seaport there are 2 FTZs (foreign-trade zones) where commercial goods (domestic and foreign) receive same Customs treatment as outside USA. Annually, Port NY-NJ handles around USD 208 billion in shipping cargoes, around 3,4 million TEU's (shipping containers) and nearly 0,4 million cars. The agreements were designed to increase revenues and sustainability/emissions reduction, with term lengths ranging between 3-15 years, each with an optional 5-year renewal. Port Everglades' "Northport Terminal 2" and "Northport Terminal 4" share a car parking (a multi-story garage) with capacity thousands of cars. Beyond the infrastructure cost, the project was delayed by haggling over the price of electrical power – in an era where cheap fuel prices made shipboard generation more economical. The power costs are subsidized in part by the EDC and the New York Power Authority, with terminal user Carnival Corp picking up the rest. As part of an agreement, Carnival Corporation pays USD 12 cents per kilowatt-hour for shorepower. As of September 2016, NYCEDC has responsibility for the system's operations and maintenance. A US$650,000 federal grant was given to the city for the building of a new ferry terminal. The facility is on the southern part of the Military Ocean Terminal, on an artificial peninsula east of NJ Route 440.

The waterway's depth is 43 ft (13 m), ranking it USA's deepest seaport on the Atlantic coast (south of Norfolk VA, not on the US East Coast in general). The new passenger terminal's construction will cost USD 35 million. Public hearing was also called by the US Army Corps of Engineers after receiving a new federal permit for putting additional pilings beneath one of the old terminal's warehouses. Connecting to Con Edison power grid, the shorepower system allows ships to run their onboard systems without using diesel generators. This eliminates ~1500 tons of CO2, ~95 tons of NOx, and ~6,5 tons of soot/particulate matter annually.

Port Everglades (locode USFLL) is one of Florida's largest economic hubs and South Florida's gateway for both international cargo- and passenger/cruise shipping traffic. The majority of those were by the homeported here Carnival Ecstasy, operating on year-round 5-day roundtrips to Bahamas (Nassau, Freeport, Half Moon Cay). Among the new cruise ships visiting in 2017 was TUI Mein Schiff 6 (2 calls). Scheduled were transition calls from large-sized vessels of Royal Caribbean, AIDA, P&O UK. Most luxury ships visiting Charleston SC are on transition routes and most of them stay in port overnight or depart late-evening. On November 4, 2016, world's largest cruise ships (Royal Caribbean's Oasis-class vessels Allure, Oasis and Harmony) came together off Port Everglades for the first time.

Cruise ships and ferries in Port New York and New Jersey dock at the berths of Cape Liberty Cruise Port (Upper Bay, Bayonne NJ), Brooklyn Cruise Terminal (Upper Bay, NYC) and New York Passenger Ship Terminal (Hudson River, NYC). Port NYC NJ (officially "Port of New York and New Jersey") handles a huge cargo shipping volume and is US East Coast's biggest seaport. Northport Terminal 4 was reopened in 2015 following a USD 24 million renovation and modernization project for greater efficiency and passenger convenience. In early-June 2017 was announced that Port Everglades invests USD 114+ million in Terminal 25's renovations. This is the preferential berth for RCG-Royal Caribbean Group ships.

RCG (which also owns Celebrity Cruises) homeported Celebrity Edge here, starting turnaround operations in 2018 (on December 1st). The new T25 terminal (in Hollywood FL) was officially inaugurated with the ship's arrival (on November 20th). The grand ceremony was attended by Richard Fain (RCG's President and CEO) and Lisa Lutoff-Perlo (Celebrity's President and CEO), plus key cruise brand executives and local officials. As container shipping (cargo) port, in 2013 Port Everglades was ranked Florida's 1st and USA's 10th busiest, handling over 1 million TEUs. Port Everglades is one of the USA's main cruise departure (turnaround) ports for Caribbean roundtrip itineraries.
